Victa railfreight debuts at Multimodal
Since its formation in 1995, Victa Railfreight has adapted to the evolving landscape of the rail freight industry during the first twenty years of privatisation. Initially it provided transhipment services at a variety of locations, acting as the interface between the rail operators and end customers, arranging haulage, storage and other added value services, handling a wide range of cargos. Opportunities arose to add rail shunting in industrial premises and port locations to these handling services and an operational safety infrastructure was created to support these activities.
This development led to increased focus on rail operations and logistics and in 2001 the company was successful in securing a £5.7m contract to provide a total package of rail operations in partnership with Amec-Spie on the installation of track and overhead line equipment on the first phase of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (now High Speed 1) including operation of a temporary railhead at Beechbrook Farm near Ashford in Kent. The project employed 75 people at its peak and these resources formed the basis of similar involvement for the equipping of the infrastructure and tunnel fit out for Phase 2 of the construction of HS1, which in turn led to involvement in a number of other construction projects including Heathrow Terminal 5.
Continuing changes in the rail freight market offered opportunities to provide qualified shunting staff to freight train operating companies across the UK and this now forms the basis of our activities, with the recent addition of main line train operating expanding this capability.
From its inception an experienced team of railway professionals has enabled Victa Railfreight to provide these core activities in a safe, innovative and professional manner and also to provide a wide range of additional Operational Support Services to customers across the rail industry such as training, consultancy and management support to operators of industrial and port rail infrastructure.
