DP World’s logistics hubs at Southampton and London Gateway have donated the equivalent of 3,000 meals to food distribution charities in their local communities. The donations will help to support hundreds of households across Essex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Dorset and Wiltshire during the Christmas period.
The food donations from DP World’s logistics hubs were given to long-term charitable partners FareShare in Southampton and Thurrock Foodbank in Essex, who work with over 200 local charities and community groups across their respective regions.
The food parcels were donated by DP World employees and their families as part of the annual Winter Wonderland celebrations at the Southampton and London Gateway logistics hubs, where they enjoyed a range of festive attractions including fairground rides, Santa’s grotto, food stalls and a fireworks display.
Ernst Schulze, Chief Executive Officer for Ports & Terminals at DP World in the UK, said:
“It is fantastic to see the incredible support we’ve been able to provide to households across the regions where we operate during the festive period. I’m very proud of our employees and their families who made the food donations and ensured that the Winter Wonderlands at Southampton and London Gateway were another massive success.”
Simon Ryan, Regional Manager at FareShare Southern Central, said:
“We are so grateful to everyone at DP World for their continued support for FareShare. The donations made from the Winter Wonderland event in Southampton will go a long way to helping us get more food to more local communities and people in need this winter. Every day, the food we redistribute to over 150 charities across the region helps to strengthen communities. From homelessness shelters and afterschool clubs to refuges and older people’s lunch clubs, these groups are all working harder than ever to bring people together through food and help them access essential support services. By donating to FareShare, DP World staff will make a huge difference to helping us make the food go further.”
Peter Newall, Pathfinder Lead & Operations Manager at Thurrock Foodbank, said:
“We are so grateful for all the support from the directors and employees at DP World London Gateway for the huge donation from their Winter Wonderland celebrations towards the work of Thurrock Foodbank. The continued support of DP World enables us to make a huge difference in the community we serve, providing them hope for a better future and demonstrates that people do care.”
Last month, DP World donated £5,000 to food redistribution charity, The Big Difference, to help establish their newest food distribution centre, which is set to be the largest community pantry in Southampton.
